Frequently Asked Questions
When is Stitch-O-Mat open?
Opening Hours:
Monday 10am - 2pm
Tuesday 7.30pm - 9.30pm
Wednesday 10am - 2pm
Friday 10am - 2pm
and every Second Sunday 1pm - 4pm
How much does it cost to come along?
We recommend a $5 Koha per session. This koha contributes to all operational costs involved with keeping Stitch-O-Mat open.
What do I need to bring?
Stitch-O-Mat has fabric, patterns, materials and machinery for all your sewing needs. If you have a project you are working on bring it along otherwise you should be able to find what you need on our shelves.
How do I donate materials / time / financially to Stitch-O-Mat?
You can make fabric and material donations straight to Stitch-O-Mat during our open drop in sessions, but please read our section under the tab GET INVOLVED for guidelines on what donations Stitch-O-Mat will accept. If you would like to donate time or to help out financially please contact us on:

Can I work on my own project?
Sure you can! Stitch-O-Mat sets no requirements for entry.
If you're stuck for something to do, we have community projects on offer if you would like to donate your time. Or plenty of ideas if you just want to come in and start something new.
Are open sessions a class?
Stitch-O-Mat has facilitators to help with your projects, to ask for advice and to keep the machines up and running, but our open drop in sessions are not "sewing classes". Stitch-O-Mat is a place for YOU to come and sew, not for us to sew for you. We do offer workshops throughout the year which are like a 'sewing class' and these are advertised through our Facebook page.
Can I use fabric / pattern / threads that are at Stitch-O-Mat?
Yes of course. The Koha (donation) for each sessions helps us to keep these things available to all. We do prefer that all patterns and threads are left at Stitch-O-Mat for use on other sessions, but the fabric you are using is yours to take home.
Can I take material and supplies home?
It depends. We love to have fabric on hand for those to use for their projects, but do remember, we aren't a fabric shop so please just take what you need for the project you are working on. All supplies and resources available at Stitch-O-Mat are for everyone so we prefer that they stay on site. Its always best to check with the facilitator on session.
I'd like to use Stitch-O-Mat for a workshop, who do I contact?
Stitch-O-Mat can be rented out for special workshops. We'd love to hear about your ideas so please contact us at:

Can I bring my kids?
Of course, kids can sew too! Our facilitators are great at helping kids find something fun to make for themselves or others. If you'd prefer them not to sew, we have some toys available to keep them busy. All are welcome at Stitch-O-Mat.
